Shrewsbury College is encouraging members of the public to buy an extra Christmas toy this year and donate it to local Women’s Aid refuge centres as part of a special appeal.
“Children affected by domestic abuse often have to leave home without any of their toys,” said Shrewsbury College Payroll & Communications Coordinator Jessica Brooks.
“The College is aiming to make sure that these children still experience the joy of Christmas by receiving a brand new toy.”
It’s easy to help – simply buy one extra toy when you do your Christmas shopping and deliver it unwrapped to the reception of any Shrewsbury College campus by Friday 7 December. Toys must be new, but do not have to be expensive and can be for a child of any age.
Domestic abuse will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men during their lifetime. Women's Aid is the national domestic violence charity that helps up to 250,000 women and children every year.
