dancing Pupils

Local dance school Dance2gether are very excited to announce that as of September 2012 the school will change its name to Footlights Dance School.   As well as the name change the dance school will be moving its dance studio from the United Reform Church to Mereside Community Centre where classes will take place on Wednesdays from 4pm.

Michelle Handley, owner and dance teacher at Footlights, has been running classes in Ballet, Tap and Freestyle dancing for 7 years in collaboration with another teacher as part of the Dance2gether group of schools.  Michelle stated, “I felt the time was right to set up a school on my own, I am accredited with the IDTA, have recently achieved 92% honours in my Tap Teachers Associate exam and I have built up a good base of pupils here in Shrewsbury.  The pupils are very excited about the name change and have been eagerly wearing their new branded t-shirts and hoodies. “
The new autumn term at Mereside Community Centre starts on September 5th and work will begin on learning dances and rehearsing for the show that will take place at the Theatre Severn in the Walker Auditorium on 20th and 21st April 2013.

Emma Davies a parent of pupils at Footlights informed us “Michelle is an excellent dance teacher and my daughters absolutely love going to ballet and tap.  My 5 year old has taken part in Rosette Award examinations and one show already and my youngest cannot wait to be in her first show next year.  Michelle is also a primary school teacher and I think that helps her to bring out the best in the children in class.”
As well as ballet, tap and freestyle dance, Footlights started offering Musical Theatre classes earlier this year and parents have welcomed the opportunity for their children to learn singing and acting as it is a great way to build confidence.

All classes are held on Wednesdays from 4pm and children can attend from the age of 3.  To find out more please contact Michelle on 07946630963 or email her at info@footlightsdanceschool.co.uk.

Michelle Handley started dancing at the age of 5 and always knew she wanted to be a dance teacher.  She started teaching dance 15 years ago and as well as performing in a large variety of amateur and semi-professional shows, she has choreographed and produced a number of dance productions including her biggest to date at the Theatre Severn in July 2011.  As a part time Primary School teacher at Manor Primary School, Wolverhampton Michelle understands how to educate young children in dance while ensuring they have fun.  Footlights Dance School was launched in September 2012 and is based at Mereside Community Centre offering Ballet, Tap, Freestyle & Street Dance and Musical Theatre classes.
