People living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions in Market Drayton and surrounding areas of Shropshire are being encouraged to try a new strength and balance programme which is aiming to help more people live well in the autumn and winter.

When: every Tuesday from 12.30pm to 1.15pm
Where: Beacon Community Centre, Prospect Road, Market Drayton, TF9 3BN

The sessions feature a mix of seated and standing workouts, designed to help target many of the problem areas associated with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions, including balance, strength, coordination and flexibility.

Delivered by experienced instructors from Purposeful Active Living (PAL), the sessions are designed for people with lower mobility or activity levels who are looking to be more active in the autumn and winter months.

No previous experience of being active is required and all movements can be adapted to suit the needs of each participant, with the emphasis of each session being on getting active in a fun and social way.

Trained instructors are on hand to guide participants through each workout and relatives or carers are also welcome to join in or watch the sessions.

Participants are recommended to wear comfortable footwear and activewear, and bring any medication they may need on the day, as well as a bottle of water.

Being active is shown to have many benefits for people living with Parkinson’s including better balance, improved coordination, greater strength and coordination.

Jack Davies-Merrington, Programme Coordinator at Purposeful Active Living (PAL), said:
“We are thrilled to launch these new strength and balance sessions aimed at supporting people living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions.

“Movement can make a world of difference to everyday independence, confidence, and overall well-being.”
