A pioneering day nursery in Shrewsbury that launched less than 18 months ago has been shortlisted in the prestigious National Day Nursery Association Awards.
Shrewsbury Prepatoria launched in late 2013 as the first UK nursery to have its ethos grounded in the Italian Reggio Emilia Approach – a model that is focused on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and self-discovery.
Shortlisted in the Central England category, Shrewsbury Prepatoria is one of only three nurseries to be shortlisted out of hundreds that entered from throughout the region, and as nursery Principal Jane Astbury explains, the awards are particularly important as they are the only nursery awards voted for by parents and carers:
“Over 75% of our parents voted for us in these awards and their supporting comments were amazing! The awards are open to good and outstanding nurseries that provide exceptional high-quality childcare. This is something we strived for from day one and to have our own parent base endorse this makes all the hard work well worth it.”
In the last year, Shrewsbury Prepatoria has enjoyed considerable growth with a staff base now of five that continues to grow and plans to open a second site later this year.
Jane continues by commenting on what makes Shrewsbury Prepatoria so special:
“We have taken the unique decision to care for children in Family Groups where babies and toddlers learn from one another and interact together and with adults in small groups – as such our children maintain contact with the same key person throughout their time here.
“This, in particular, is one of the real selling points that attract parents to us and this showed through in the comments that accompanied their votes.”
Shrewsbury Prepatoria will find out on April 30 if they’ve been successful in claiming the Central Region crown, before attending the glittering national awards ceremony in Coventry in June.
