The skies above a Shropshire village will light up as the community marks bonfire night and raises money for charity.
The Friends of Oakmeadow School will host the event on November 5 from 5.30pm at the school site in Lythwood Road, Bayston Hill.
The charity is run by members of the school PTA and more than £2,300 was raised at the bonfire celebrations in 2014.
Sally Page, parent and chair of the PTA, said: “We raised £2318.11 for the school funds last year and we are hoping to beat that total with the event this November.
“Money raised by the Friends of Oakmeadow goes to help the school and provide for the pupils. All funds raised at this year’s event will go towards developing the outside learning area at Oakmeadow.”
More than £1,400 was raised at the school’s Summer fair in July and over the holidays work to improve the outside area began with part of the playground being developed. Wooden carved structures have now been added to the area providing seats and activities for the youngsters.
“The PTA are working on funding an outdoor shelter and classroom which will complete the outside learning area and provide a variety of opportunities for the children of Oakmeadow,” added Mrs Page.
“We look forward to welcoming pupils, parents and the wider community to the fireworks night to help us raise the money for this fantastic facility.”
Visitors to the event will be able to enjoy fairground rides, a glow stall and glow in the dark face painting as well as a BBQ and jacket potato stand, sweets and popcorn stalls and mulled wine and cider.
Advance tickets, which are £10 for a family of two adults and two children, £2 for a child and £3.50 for an adult, are available from the school reception or The Beeches in Lythwood Road. Gate prices are £12 for a family, £3 for a child and £4 for an adult.
The gates will open at 5.30pm and the fireworks are set to light up the skies at around 7pm.
