Residents of Morris Care’s Isle Court nursing home, Bicton, have celebrated the 2012 London Olympics with a visit to Much Wenlock to find out more about the ‘home of the Olympics’.

Taking the specially adapted minibus from the nursing home, residents spent a day visiting the newly refurbished museum and information centre in Much Wenlock, Shropshire. The exhibition at the museum explains the link between Dr William Penny Brookes, the inspiration for the Modern Olympic Movement, who was born and bred in Much Wenlock, and the consequent birth of the Modern Olympic Games.

Residents also found out about how one of the 2012 London Olympic mascots has been named Wenlock after this town in Shropshire, to mark its important link with the Games.
“I found the museum very interesting. We are all very much enjoying the Games, it’s really exciting!”, said Isle Court resident Dilys Kelly.

Residents took a tour around the exhibition and stopped off for a moment to relax with tea and homemade cakes at a traditional tearoom in the town centre.

Morris Care owns and runs six nursing homes in Shropshire and Cheshire. Each home has a dedicated social life coordinator who organizes activities for the residents that include exercise classes, entertainment by local performers, restaurant evenings and day trips.
