Staff at a Shrewsbury furniture store will be offering children the chance to celebrate the school holidays in style with a free party including a magician, a mini zoo and a treasure hunt.
The free family event is being held at Alan Ward in Harlescott on Friday July 31 to mark the second anniversary of the opening of the cookshop and homewares department.
Entertainment, including Scott Adams from the Exotic Zoo in Telford and magician Picklelily Circus, will be provided from 10.30am to 4pm at the store on Ennerdale Road, whilst Lajina Leal from Masala Magic will be offering tastes of her curry products.
As a special celebration offer, 15 per cent will be knocked off everything in the cookshop and homewares department during the day and over the weekend (August 1 and 2).
Kathy Lesser, marketing manager at Alan Ward, said they realised parents and grandparents often struggled to access free entertainment for the children during the summer holidays, whilst also enjoying something they were interested in too.
She hoped people with or without children would come and enjoy the party celebrations.
“We are going to have the Exotic Zoo in one area and Picklelily Circus in another and we will split the party guests into two groups so they get to see both,” she said.
“We plan to run a treasure hunt around the store which will see the children follow the clues recognising pieces of furniture, colours, patterns, materials and numbers along the way.
“Our cookshop has been a great success since it opened two years ago and stocks everything you need for the kitchen including the latest gadgets like Nespresso coffee machines.
“The homewares department has also been extremely popular and has doubled in size over the past two years so we thought it was a good opportunity to celebrate their success and have some fun.”
Prizes and balloons will be available for the children and adults will be given discount vouchers.
A raffle will be held to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, and the instore coffee shop will be also open serving family-friendly meals and drinks.
