National Youth Choirs of Great Britain
Boys’ Choir and Cambiata Voices
Saturday 28 July⎮3pm⎮St Mary’s Church, Shrewsbury

The National Youth Boys’ Choir, showcasing some of Britain’s finest singers aged 9-14, presents an entertaining programme of music with its roots in a range of traditional styles on Saturday 28 July.

These two special boys-only choirs sing negro spirituals, traditional Scottish, English and French songs, and an Australian welcome song, arranged by composers including Vaughan Williams and Poulenc. Creo en Dios by Nunez brings a characteristic Spanish flavour to the concert.

The classical choral tradition itself is represented by Sub tuum praesidium by Charpentier.

The Boys’ Choir is specifically for young singers aged 9 and upwards whose voices have not yet broken, while Cambiata Voices is for boys whose voices are undergoing transition. Their concert in St Mary's Church marks the end of a five-day intensive singing course working on a wide and exciting variety of music.

Conductor Greg Hallam says, ‘Following their appearance at the Royal Albert Hall at Easter, the boys are looking forward to their next major concert in the wonderful acoustic of St Mary's.’

‘They are of a phenomenally high, world-class standard and act as a springboard for the country’s most gifted and versatile young singers.’

Tickets will be available on the door at £3 (free for under-18s). The concert is scheduled to run until 4.15pm (no interval).

Only the boys will be singing at St Mary's Church on 28 July.
