Theatre Severn has confirmed that this year’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk has set a new attendance record for pantomime in Shrewsbury. With almost a week until the show closes on Sunday 13 January, ticket sales have now soared past the 33,547 mark set by Aladdin last year.
This year’s pantomime is the second for Theatre Severn in partnership with Evolution Productions, run by Telford-born Paul Hendy and his wife Emily Wood. The show also sees the return to Shrewsbury of the hugely popular Brad Fitt as Dame Trott, and Andrew Fettes as Fleshcreep, following their appearances in Aladdin last year.
A familiar face to local audiences, BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith is currently appearing in his tenth Shrewsbury pantomime as King Eric, while Adam Moss provides plenty of comedy and chaos as Billy Trott. Laura Jane Matthewson as Fairy Sugarsnap, Bleu Woodward as Princess Tamara, and Jo Parsons in the heroic title role complete a leading cast which has been delighting audiences of all ages since the show opened on 6 December.
Theatre Manager Peter Nicholson, told us “We are thrilled with the success of this year’s pantomime and would like to thank those who have attended for their fantastic support. With tickets still available for the final performances, it’s not too late to catch the show and kick off your new year in style with some Fe-Fi-Fo-Fun!”
Mr Nicholson confirmed that next year’s pantomime was now on sale and proving popular, “Over 1000 tickets have already been sold for Sleeping Beauty, and thousands more have been reserved by local schools.”
Jack and the Beanstalk continues at Theatre Severn until Sunday 13 January. Tickets are available from the Box Office at Theatre Severn (01743 281281), the Old Market Hall in The Square, or online www.theatresevern.co.uk
