A Shrewsbury apprentice impressed both her employers and training provider so much she was taken on full time, promoted and handed a top award for her achievements.
Sammie Milton, started working for award-winning care company – Bluebird Care, based in Shrewsbury, two years ago as an administration assistant while studying an Advanced Apprenticeship – Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration with SBC Training.
On completion of the Apprenticeship, she had impressed bosses so much she was made a permanent staff member last May and promoted to Manager’s Assistant.
Sammie said she was “over the moon” and “very grateful” to have secured a permanent position as part of the Shrewsbury-based team after her training and a year later was chosen to receive a ‘Top Achiever Award’ via her training provider in the SBC Training Awards 2016.
Sammie said: “I feel very privileged to win this award, and this will help me to keep progressing in my career. I was chosen to win because when I was given a task or a piece of work to do by my tutor, I would always make sure I completed it a couple of weeks before our meeting, and also asked for more work to do to be able to complete my course much sooner.
“I think completing an Apprenticeship gives you a great opportunity to build a career and the support from your workplace and your training provider will encourage you to keep learning and also help you continue building your knowledge.
“Working in the office is great as I love interacting with the staff and also speaking to our lovely customers on a daily basis. One of the highlights of my career at Bluebird Care was at Christmas 2015 when I organised and put together the Christmas hampers for our care staff. It felt great to be able to reward the hard-working carers for all they do and was something a bit different for me work-wise.”
Sammie hopes to continue her career and become HR Manager at Bluebird Care, which provides at home care to people of all ages across Shropshire, to allow them to continue to live independently in their own homes.
Claire Flavell, Director of Care, said: “We have recently restructured the support staff and management team and Sammie is an invaluable member of the team.
“Not only are we dedicated to training our staff, we also believe in promoting from within and Sammie did such a good job with her Apprenticeship we were keen to offer her not just a full time role but a promotion and we were delighted she accepted.
“She completed her Apprenticeship with flying colours and then was selected to win an award for her dedication – it is much deserved and Sammie has a great future ahead of her.”
