Footlights Dance School, based in Shrewsbury, held a fun day on 2nd February to raise funds for their upcoming show “What a feeling”, that will take place at Theatre Severn on 20th and 21st April 2013,as well as for Severn Hospice.
Mereside Community Centre was packed with people that had turned out to support the dance school, and there were stalls galore to purchase goods from.  Many local companies and party planners were among the vendors including Shropshire Sweet Company, Pat A Cake Bouquets, Bella’s Boutique and Handmade by Mel many of whom donated a percentage of their takings on the day.
Emma Davies, organiser of the event stated “my two daughters attend the dance school and some of the parents suggested doing something to raise funds towards the cost of the show in April.  A fun day seemed to fit the bill and it seemed logical to support a local charity too.  Severn Hospice offers such valuable care to cancer sufferers and their families.  Having experienced this first hand with another hospice in South Wales when my mum lost her battle with cancer, I knew I wanted to help give something back.”
The emphasis was on having fun while fund raising and local entertainers Magic Kev and Dawn Powell Storyteller kindly donated their time to come and entertain the masses.  “Magic Kev brought another magician with him and together they wowed the crowds with magic tricks and balloon modelling and Dawn Powell mesmerised the children with interactive traditional tales and games – “the children and parents loved it!” said Emma Davies.
The total amount raised on the day was £410 which is being split equally with Severn Hospice. After being informed of the £205 that Footlights Dance School were donating to the hospice Mike Perry, Community Fundraising Advisor stated “At Severn Hospice we rely heavily on the people within our community, to help us to provide the care and support that we are able to give to our patients and their families. We are very grateful to share in the profits from their fun day and wish them all the very best for their upcoming shows.”
The pupils attention will now turn towards rehearsing for their upcoming show “What a feeling” that will take place at Theatre Severn on 20th and 21st April 2013.  “My little girls are so excited about being on stage at the theatre and I am just glad that they can have this life experience.  The funds raised will certainly help towards the cost of the show!”
Tickets for “What a Feeling” can be purchased via Theatre Severn.
