Dodgy at Four Crosses at Bicton, Shrewsbury – 17th August 2012
Pop trio Dodgy are playing at the Four Crosses in Bicton, Shrewbury on Friday August 17th as a warm-up to their appearance at V Festival the following night. They will be
playing all the best- loved Dodgy tunes (Good Enough, Staying Out For the Summer, In A Room etc), as well as brilliant new material from their critically acclaimed new
album Stand Upright In a Cool Place.
Dodgy have a great love for Shrewbury, having visited there in October 2012 as part of their album launch tour. The sell-out gig was so well received, the band is returning, following a successful Facebook campaign to ‘Bring Dodgy Back to Shrewsbury’, lead by local music fans Elliot & Eleanor Howells. As a thank you, Dodgy recorded a special 40th birthday video for Eleanor in May, singing a version of The Turtles’ Elenore as a surprise gift from the band.
Support, it was announced today, will be provided by the marvelous Mark Morriss of Bluetones fame, who will undoubtedly contribute to an electric atmosphere.
Brilliantly, the band’s drummer Math Priest will be hosting a pop quiz before the gig, bringing his experiences as a popular repeat panellist on Nevermind The Buzzcocks
into great use.
Dodgy first came to prominence in the 1990s Britpop era, and sold over a million records worldwide, released three studio albums and 12 chart-hit singles, some of which remain on the BBC Radio playlists. They sold out the Brixton Academy for three nights in a row and in 1997 were awarded an unprecedented 90-minute Saturday
night slot on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival.
Having taken a break from Dodgy to raise families and to pursue other interests, the definitive line- up of Nigel Clark (vocals, bass), Andy Miller (guitar) and Math Priest
(drums) reformed in 2007. They quickly rediscovered old fans and have gained a new following at festivals up and down the UK over the last five years, including a triumphant return to Glastonbury.
During this time, the new album was written and recorded, and finally mixed in Texas during the summer of 2011. The resulting album “Stand Upright in a Cool Place”, is unmistakably Dodgy but is deeper and more mature, with bigger choruses and strong melodies. It is arguably the best material the band has produced to date.
