Shrewsbury shoppers were given a early Christmas treat when a 60 -strong dance group performed a surprise flashmob on Pride Hill on Saturday 22nd December . Crowds watched on in amazement as seemingly ordinary shoppers broke out into dance, then walked away as if nothing had happened!
Inspired by the famous T-mobile dance flashmob , event organizer Sarah Davies of ‘Revel-In Dance’ wanted to create some Christmas cheer for locals and momentarily distract them from their shopping lists. Furthermore, she also wanted to provide an opportunity for locals to get involved in a totally inclusive dance event. “I was thrilled by the response to my ‘call up’ for volunteers. Many of the recruits already attended my Street dance and Zumba classes but a large majority signed up following a notice on Facebook. All the volunteers met for two rehearsals and also practiced using a video posted on the website. There was a fantastic group atmosphere in rehearsals. Everybody loved learning the light hearted routine and all seemed to get a real buzz from feeling part of a secret event. The feed back since has been fantastic. Locals have remarked that “the performance really lit up the street” and how they loved to have taken part. In the 4 days that followed, the You Tube video got 2900 views !“
For those who missed it, the flash mob can be viewed on You Tube and on the ‘revel in dance’ facebook page.
