Hundreds of patients, visitors, staff and volunteers turned out to celebrate the good work being carried out at Shropshire’s two main hospitals yesterday (Thu).
The annual Exhibition and Trust Awards are designed to highlight the enthusiastic and innovative efforts of staff at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
The event, held at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, featured a variety of events and displays and took place before the Trust’s Annual General Meeting.
Peter Herring, Trust Chief Executive, said: “This year’s Trust Awards and Exhibition were a real success enjoyed by the many members of the public and staff who joined us yesterday. We were able to celebrate the achievements of our staff and volunteers, and also share with people the progress we have made over the past year and our vision for the future.
“On a more personal note the event provided a fantastic opportunity for me to find out so much about the good work being carried out across the Trust. I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication as we look ahead to working together to provide our communities with the high standard of services they expect and deserve.”
The highlight of the day was the presentation of the annual Trust Awards, which this year included awards for the Leader of the Year and the Quality and Safety Award amongst other categories.
There were a record 45 finalists from across the Trust in the running for this year’s awards. The winners were:
Leader of the Year – Dr Kevin Eardley
Ward/Department of the Year – Acute Medical Unit at PRH
Learning and Growth – Governance Manager, Matrons and Ward Managers and the Wider Surgery Centre Team
Innovation and Productivity – Audiology Team for their new GP referral process
Quality and Safety – Acute Medical Unit Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists

The event was followed by the Trust’s Annual General Meeting, which included a presentation on the progress and challenges during the year and the opportunities and priorities for the year ahead. The meeting also received the Trust’s Annual Report, Annual Accounts and Quality Account.
