Work is well underway to create six new departments at Shropshire’s largest independent furniture store as part of a £100,000 redevelopment programme to put the store on the map for gifts and home accessories.
This is the first step in a complete revamp of the ground floor at Alan Ward in Shrewsbury and creates three new jobs for the town.
The redesign, due to be finished at the end of this month, will offer customers a one-stop shop for all their home needs and sees lighting, clocks, accessories, pictures and mirrors and soft furnishings all brought to the same location at the Ennerdale Road store.
There will also be a new cookshop department, with everything on hand to create a stylish and modern kitchen and dining area.
The cookshop includes state-of-the-art cookware, small electrical items, cutlery, tableware and glassware by designers including James Martin, Joseph Joseph, Stellar, Judge, Devine Deli, Dartington and Kenwood.
“This is a major development for us and we are bringing in an even wider range of products and truly diversifying our selection for customers, ” said Elaine Ray, senior director for Alan Ward.
“We are completely committed to offering our customers everything for the home under one roof.
“Alan Ward is very well known for larger furniture items such as sofas, carpets and beds but less well known for the finishing touches and accessories but this redesign will change that perception and make us the place to come to for gifts for the home.”
Miss Ray also welcomed three new staff to the store, which includes a manager, one full-time and one part-time member of staff.
