2013 – THE YEAR OF SHROPSHIRE’S YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

2013 has been declared the Year of the Young Entrepreneur in Shropshire as Telford Enterprise Hub launches its New Year call for the county’s under 30’s to consider starting their own business to “make their own jobs.”

Start Up Bootcamp kicks off on January 10 from 10am to 1pm while the first business development network for both trading and potential young business start ups is on January 31 from 5pm to 7pm at the Enterprise Hub in Hadley Park, Telford.

Entitled YOUNG BRITAIN – the only scheme of its kind in the UK was launched last year with a mixture of public and private funding from Shropshire’s TTC Group, Telford & Wrekin Council and the European Regional Development Fund.

Since then a number of young people have signed up to Young Britain and launched their own firms in digital media, renewable energy, domestic and commercial cleaning, artisan fashion, arts studios and legal recruitment services.

Young Britain co founder and Telford Enterprise Hub director Fay Easton is urging the young unemployed of Shropshire to “take their jobs future into their own hands” and start their own business.

“More than one in five young people are out of work and many young people coming out of schools, colleges and universities are adding to those unemployed numbers of jobseekers.

“We should be steering young people to the opportunities in SELF employment and I am urging them to come and talk to us about the Young Britain scheme at Telford Enterprise Hub.

“You may not be sure what sort of business you can start but you will have talents and skills that will convert to earning through self employment income. Do come and see us and find out how we can help.  Your own energy and passion mixed with our routes to money and business advice are the only ingredients we need to get you earning.

“2013 is your year. It is truly going to be The Year of the Young Entrepreneur,” said Fay.

Through this new and revolutionary scheme, local under 30 year olds will benefit from free Start Up Boot Camps, onward business start up support and mentoring, free registered business addresses, workspace, workshops and networks – all designed to help the young person kick start their own “earning futures” and become the UK's next generation entrepreneurs.

More than 20 young people in Shropshire have already taken advantage of what the YOUNG BRITAIN scheme has to offer since its launch last Summer by the Prime Minister’s Enterprise Advisor Lord Young, who has also launched the Start Up Loans initiative to help young people finance their start ups.

At the time, Lord Young who has his own entrepreneurial office in Number Ten,  praised philanthropists Graham and Jenny Wynn, who run the successful specialist driver training organisation, the TTC Group in Telford, for their £250,000 investment commitment that has enabled the campaign to be launched within the contemporary business space at Telford Enterprise Hub.

“In 30 years Telford will be very different because of this building and because of the public spiritedness of the founders Graham and Jenny Wynn,” said Lord Young at the launch.

TTC Group MD Jenny Wynn said: “It is important to help get young people out of unemployment so that they can lead fulfilling lives.  It’s proven that young people’s health and life chances are dramatically reduced if they suffer long periods of unemployment at the outset of their working lives.  We want to help and support them into work. These young people are the future for all of us.”
