The Sounds of Wales…Cor Meibion De Cymru
Theatre Severn
Saturday November 4th 2023 7.00 p.m.
This county and even this country would suffer so badly if we lost our heart for charity. There is a vast array of charities filling spending gaps and doing such wonderful work. One of those that have been saving lives for decades since 1953 in fact, and one of my personal favourites would be, The Samaritans. I am delighted therefore to share this news with you and to tell you that I too will be there to review this show and report back at what I see.
Returning to Shrewsbury by popular request after four years of sell-out concerts, The South Wales Male Choir – Côr Meibion De Cymru, sings again in support of Samaritans of Shrewsbury to help celebrate Samaritans 70th Birthday.
The much travelled choir, with no fewer than 22 tours across the world since its foundation in 1982, delights in performing nearby just ‘over the border’.
This highly professional prestigious traditional male choir will perform a rich, varied and entertaining programme encompassing more wonderful ‘SOUNDS OF WALES’ designed to thrill the heart and strengthen the soul!
MICHAEL CARDING – Renowned local Poet, will join us to recite some of his popular works.
The proceeds from this Concert will go to Samaritans of Shrewsbury:
Samaritans has a prominent, nationally recognisable name, Samaritans of Shrewsbury is an independent local charity affiliated to the central charity. This means that they are responsible for securing all their own funds, recruiting, training and managing local Volunteers.
The Shrewsbury branch is sustained by the work of 89 local volunteers who give emotional support to people in distress, despair and with suicidal feelings and actions whatever their situation, and however they want to make contact; by phone, email, text and face-to-face. During 2022, in addition to handling around 8,200 telephone calls and 2,400 emails, they were involved in 109 community events and were able to reach around 13,500 people across Shropshire with their Outreach activity. In addition to giving talks to local groups and clubs, they have Volunteers regularly present at Shrewsbury Railway Station as part of our Network Rail Partnership and they are present at two local Foodbanks.
They also run workshops to help develop compassionate listening skills amongst staff in small organizations, hairdressers, hospitality staff, librarians, and local clergy trying to support their increasingly distressed customers and clients, many of them living in rural communities.
Find my review here on loveshrewsbury.com 2 hours after curtain down. I for one am looking forward to seeing this one.
