The Roy Fletcher Centre on Cross Hill has launched a brand-new website designed to support Shrewsbury residents who want to build confidence with everyday digital skills.
For over 25 years, the Centre has been home to local charities, community groups, and volunteers who work together to support people across the town. One of its growing projects is “Mind the Digital Gap,” a free digital skills programme that helps adults stay connected, manage online tasks safely, and feel more at ease with laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
The new website introduces a range of simple, friendly guides written for beginners. It also includes two new interactive tools created especially for local learners:
• Digital Skills Checker – an easy step-by-step tool that uses AI to help visitors identify the skills they already have and areas where they might like more support
• Digital IQ Test – a short, fun quiz to help people understand their confidence level with everyday technology
Both tools were developed by volunteers in Shrewsbury and are already proving popular with people who come to the Centre’s weekly sessions.
Many learners visit for help with tasks such as online shopping, video calling family, using NHS services, or avoiding online scams. The new site brings all of this support together in one accessible place, making it easier for people to learn at their own pace or find out about upcoming drop-in sessions.
The Centre is also home to several Shrewsbury charities and offers affordable meeting rooms used widely by local groups.
