After a short break, ShropGeek is back this February with an evening dedicated to technology, creativity, and community. Taking place at the Cats Pyjamas Café in The Square, Shrewsbury, the event will bring together local professionals and enthusiasts from across Shropshire for a night of inspiring talks, networking, and socialising.
Founded over a decade ago, ShropGeek began as a gathering of local web and IT enthusiasts, and has since evolved into a vibrant hub for designers, developers, digital marketers, and tech innovators. This latest event aims to reconnect the region’s growing technology community and welcome new faces working in IT, AI, web, design, SEO, and related fields.
A Line-Up of Expert Speakers
Chris Mills – Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Leading the evening is Christopher Mills, Senior Technical Account Manager, AI Ambassador, and Industry Expert (Partners) at Amazon Web Services. With over 15 years’ experience in cloud architecture, digital transformation, and AI-driven development, Chris works with global partners to harness generative AI and automation for innovation and efficiency.
In his talk, Chris will explore the forefront of developer productivity and agentic AI, covering tools such as Amazon Q, Kiro, Bedrock, SageMaker, and Frontier Agents. Drawing on case studies from industries like Formula 1 and the London Market, he’ll reveal how cutting-edge AI technologies are transforming how developers and enterprises work—turning complex concepts into practical, real-world strategies.
Based in Shrewsbury, Chris is also a qualified pilot at Sleap Airfield and an active community volunteer, bringing a local connection to global technology topics.
David Bishop – Local AI Innovator
Shrewsbury-based technologist David Bishop will share insights from his ambitious project using generative AI to improve public sector websites. What started as a small demo evolved into the development of a local AI server farm built from repurposed business machines and secondhand gaming rigs.
David’s talk will explore how he orchestrated over 50,000 AI chat prompts to audit more than 5,000 user journeys across 400 local authorities—a feat of AI engineering and performance architecture. He’ll also discuss the broader implications of data sovereignty, open-source technology adoption, and locally hosted AI solutions in the context of European data privacy.
Attendees can expect practical takeaways, fascinating technical insights, and firsthand stories of the challenges facing AI projects in today’s evolving landscape.
Speaker #3 – Coming Soon
A third speaker will be announced shortly. If you’re working on something innovative in the Shropshire tech scene, ShropGeek would love to hear from you.
