Works are due to start on the Northern Gateway project on Monday 17th September. The improvements are centred on Chester Street, Cross Street and Castle Foregate in front of the railway station.
Proposals for the Northern Gateway Scheme were discussed with a wide range of people earlier this year. Thank you if you attended the exhibition and made comments. The scheme was reviewed following the consultation, some changes were made, and it was approved for construction by Shropshire Council's Central Planning Committee in May. The latest layout plan is online at http://www.cycleshrewsbury.co.uk/cycle-network-improvements/have-your-say/northern-gateway-enhancement .
Construction work will be undertaken by Midlands contractors, Fitzgerald's, and supervised by consulting engineers, Mouchel. Staff will be working hard to minimise disruption to all road users during the works. The work is programmed in two phases; 17 September to 30 November 2012; and 7 January to 22 March 2013. The first phase will focus on construction of the new bus lay-by opposite the railway station and improvements on Chester Street. The second phase will concentrate on the Castle Foregate corridor.
