Morris Lubricants has promoted Ryan Woolley to the pivotal role of technical manager.
He is responsible for approving all oil, lubricant and grease products, ensuring that formulations meet Morris Lubricants’ rigorous quality standards and criteria, before being manufactured and shipped around the globe.
In his new role, Ryan has a number of key responsibilities that he must maintain. As well as monitoring and approving products manufactured on the state-of-the-art production site in Shrewsbury, he formulates new oils and lubricants for the future of the business that need to perform to the latest vehicle technology requirements.
As part of product management, Ryan continuously liaises with the company’s purchasing team to ensure the correct raw materials are ordered for the wide range of products offered by Morris Lubricants.
This ranges from modern commercial vehicle engines oils to hardworking off-highway hydraulic oils, as well as dependable agricultural transmission oils and the latest generation of automotive engine coolants.
Ryan also manages a dedicated technical services team who play a critical role in supporting and helping Morris Lubricants customers select and use the correct oils and lubricants for their vehicles.
In addition, the team answers technical questions, reviews fleet surveys, provides appropriate recommendations and carries out oil analysis for any issues that may arise.
Ryan has been with Morris Lubricants for nine and a half years, beginning his time on a university work placement while studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Chester.
His placement made quite an impression on him. Just over a week after completing his degree, he started his career as a technical adviser with the company. He was then promoted to technical support engineer before stepping up to his new role as technical manager.
“The oil and lubricants industry is constantly changing,” explained Ryan. “With new Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications and formulations becoming available all the time, we have to make sure that Morris Lubricants is ahead of the industry curve and prepared for upcoming market demands rather than reactive to what has already happened.
“Our priority is to ensure that we make the best product for customers whatever the vehicles and equipment they are working with and, of course, wherever in the world they operate.
“We have customers in countries across the globe, from Iceland and Scandinavia in the Northern Hemisphere to New Zealand in the south and that often means making products with different formulations to suit different climates and operating conditions. Our products are trusted and used all around the world.”
Ryan’s promotion coincides with a period of continued growth for Morris Lubricants both in the UK and overseas.
Capital investments include major efficiency improvements in the manufacturing facilities to increase the company’s ability to produce and fill more product and the Worldwide Distribution Centre that has increased Morris Lubricants ability to store and distribute product around the globe.
Andrew Goddard, executive chairman, said: “Congratulations to Ryan on a thoroughly deserved promotion. He has embraced the challenges of this important role with real dedication and professionalism, stepping up admirably as his responsibilities have grown.
“With an increased focus on industry liaison, I look forward to working closely with him and helping him continue to develop as his role evolves.”
