VIDEO CV 1 TA (2)

Shropshire Chamber of Commerce has launched a major new scheme in support of the government’s drive to get people back in to work.

The Chamber Business Academy, the training and conference centre based in Old Potts Way in Shrewsbury, has teamed up with Job Centre Plus and county filming specialists 7 Video to create bespoke video CVs for job applicants.

First to face the cameras was Finnish-born Tiina Toelli (CORRECT), aged 24, from Apley, Telford, who speaks five languages and is now looking for employment, having previously worked in health care and the voluntary sector. Her video profile, along with all the other job hopefuls, can be viewed at www.scocpeopleportal.com.

Tiina said: “I was a little wary about the filming process at first but it developed into a very exciting experience and the crew were simply brilliant – they soon put me at ease and gave me advice about talking to camera.

“The Academy gave me help with writing my CV which I believe gives me a greater chance of promoting myself to prospective employers and the two-minute website slot provides an opportunity to tell more people about myself.

“Hopefully it will encourage employers to get in touch and they will be even more impressed when they meet me in person!”

Martyn Harris, creative director of 7 Video, commented: “We spent about an hour working with each candidate and made every effort to put them at ease and helped them relax in front of the camera, which should also boost their confidence in future interview situations.”

Shropshire Chamber managing director, Richard Sheehan, added: “This is a perfect example of how we as a Chamber endeavour to help our member companies. The new video scheme means that businesses can now view actual prospective employees on our video website, saving them the time of going through endless mounds of paperwork applications.

“Having launched this partnership with 7 Video and the Department of Work & Pensions, we have already received a great deal of interest in the scheme from the business community and believe that it will provide currently unemployed people with an opportunity to showcase themselves and in turn contribute to future economic growth in Shropshire and beyond.”
