A campaign by a local charity is encouraging people of all ages to get active whilst raising funds to help transform the lives of older people across the county.

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin has launched its inspiring “Act Now Age Better” campaign alongside an exciting fundraising initiative, #Challenge75, inviting the community to get active and raise vital funds in celebration of the charity’s 75th anniversary.

With people in the UK living longer than ever before – with average life expectancy now at 78.8 years for men and 87.8 years for women – the challenge isn’t just about living longer but living well. Too many people spend their later years in poor health, with one in six deaths linked to physical inactivity.

The charity is on a mission to change that.

Promoting healthy ageing through regular, varied movement, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is highlighting a simple but powerful message: it’s never too late to start. From daily walks to strength and balance exercises, staying active can help maintain independence, reduce the risk of falls, and improve overall physical and mental wellbeing.

And now, through #Challenge75, they’re inviting the whole community to get involved.

Whether it’s walking, running, cycling, swimming or another activity participants are encouraged to complete 75 miles, minutes, or laps in any way that suits them, while raising funds to support local older people.

Clare Davis, Chief Executive of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: “Every step, pedal stroke, paddle, dance move, counts towards a healthier, stronger future. We want to shift the mindset from exercise as an obligation to movement as empowerment and even a bit of light exercise at home or carrying the shopping will benefit you in later life.”

She continued: “For #Challenge75 whether you’re going solo, teaming up with friends, or rallying your workplace, this is your chance to get moving, stay healthy and give back. Every penny we raise will support essential services for older people across Shropshire, helping them stay independent, connected, and supported in later life.”

So why not take the first step today? Join #Challenge75, get moving your way, and help create a future where we can all age better.
