Vintage tractors and implements sale success for Shrewsbury auctioneers

Halls Auctioneers are already planning their next vintage tractors and implements auction in the autumn following the outstanding success of the inaugural sale at Shrewsbury Auction Centre at the end of last month.

Auctioneer and sale organiser Henry Hyde reported “a fantastic crowd, terrific turnout and packed showring” for the indoor auction where prices peaked at £14,400 for a beautifully restored 1976 Massey Ferguson 168 Multi Power.

The tractor was included in a collection of 10 sold by D. & S. B. Farquharson, described by Mr Hyde as “the showstoppers”. The collection was supported by an entry of “smart” tractors from local farmers and supporters of Halls’ livestock markets.

The MartEye online bidding platform was kept busy during the auction with competitive bidding from the large crowd.

Other leading prices were £11,500 for a 1976 Ford 6600 2WD tractor from a local dairy farm, £10,800 for a restored 1971 Massey Ferguson 135 Multi Power from D & S. B. Farquharson, £9,400 for a 1980 Massey Ferguson 2640 2WD, £9,200 for an immaculately restored 1969 Ford 3000 from an Ellesmere vendor, £7,850 for a Massey Ferguson 135 Multi Power in original condition and £6,200 for a 1981 Ford 4600 4WD.

A Ransomes TS 86 2 furrow match plough with spare plough board sold for a notable £4,800 while a “barn find” 1972 Land Rover Series 3, 88-inch Shortwheel base sold for £2,000.

The other prices were: £4,100 for a 1970 David Brown 1200 Selectamatic in original condition, £3,300 for a 1975 Case David Brown 995 in original condition with a DB Cab , £3,200 for a 1970 David Brown 880 Selectamatic in original condition, £3,100 for a Fordson Power Major in original condition, £2,950 for a 1961 Massey Ferguson 65 with front loader, muck fork, cab and doors, £2,650 for a Nuffield BMC Diesel 4/65 in original condition, £2,350 for 1957 Ferguson FE 35 Grey & Gold, £2,200 for a restored 1955 Fordson Major Industrial Diesel 2WD, £2,000 for a 1990 Case International 235 Hydro 2WD Compact, £1,550 for a 1966 Massey Ferguson 130 2WD, £1,500 for a Ferguson TE20 Petrol / TVO with front end loader and £1,220 for a 1959 International B-275 2WD.

Mr Hyde thanked all vendors and buyers for their support with the sale, especially D & S. B. Farquharson. “It might not have been the biggest of sales but the quality was absolute,” he said.

“As we are planning another vintage sale in the autumn, I am keen to hear from anyone who has vintage tractors or implements that they would like to sell. Saturday’s auction success highlights the interest and proves that there are buyers out there looking for these vintage items.”
