New folk trio Vamm are set to reprise their successful appearance at the recent Shrewsbury Folk Festival with a gig at the Hive in Shrewsbury on September 16.

Vamm – which means ‘to bewitch and entrance’ in Shetlandic – features Scottish fiddle players Patsy Reid and Catriona MacDonald, and Norwegian mandola player Marit Falt.

The trio was one of the most popular acts at the August Bank Holiday festival at the West Mid Showground and was described by fellow artist Jonathan Byrd as producing “enchanted music”.
Patsy Reid has close associations to Shrewsbury, having played here with her former band Breabach and being part of the festival-organised Cecil Sharp Project in 2011 – a week long songwriting project based at Acton Scott – which debuted at Theatre Severn.

Folk Festival Director and organiser of the Hive series Neil Pearson said: ‘Vamm were one of the most popular acts at the festival with their breed to high energy playing of traditional tunes.
“Anyone who missed the opportunity to see them or would like to experience them performing live again should get down to the Hive.”

Future Hive gigs include Faustus will perform on October 21, Megson on November 11, Roddy Woomble on November 25. Kerfuffle will reform for Christmas gig on December 16.
In 2013 starts BBC Folk Award winner Lucy Ward plays on January 12, followed by the Emily Portman Trio on February 17, Sam Carter on March 17 and Jackie Oates on April 28.
Singer songwriter Martyn Joseph will also be part of the series, playing at Theatre Severn on November 7.

Tickets start from £10 and are available for the concerts through The Hive Box Office on 01743 234970 or in person. All concerts start at 7:45pm.
