If ever you wanted a reminder of what was going on in British Pop Music in the fifties and sixties see this show , it really does have to be the definitive fifties and sixties tribute show. You won’t get much better.
The question that poses itself is, why was this show so much better than so many tribute or cover bands? It’s a fair question...

I’m not normally one to get too excited upon the news of the launch of a new MPV. I don’t have children, I don’t manage a sports team or claim membership to a club. I don’t run a small business that requires a van. I’ve never felt the urge to take up a “lifestyle” type hobby either – I don’t even have a drum-kit – and seldom do I need a vehicle that can carry seven adults. Anyway, aren’t...

Just before my brother arrived in 1969, my dad, in need of a family car, bought a Vauxhall Viva HB estate. Four years later when I came along the Viva was still providing reliable transport, and thanks to dad’s careful ownership, cautious driving style, and near religious standards of home servicing, it did so for quite a few years after that. As time went on though childhood Sunday...

Despite its chunky bodywork and go-anywhere looks it’s probably fair to say that most BMW X5s were bought more for their perceived safety on the school-run than they ever were for their cross-country abilities. You get the feeling that right from the outset BMW knew that was going to be the case too; they cannily called the X5 a Sports Activity Vehicle (rather than Sports Utility Vehicle)...

Superb (adjective). Of excellent quality; very great. splendid, grand.
You’ve got to be pretty confident if you’re going put a badge on the boot-lid of one of your cars saying that, even if it is your range-topper, but, that’s what Skoda have done, and it’s not the first time either. In the 1930’s even when Skoda were a renowned luxury motor-maker calling one its products The Superb was...

Not so long ago Volkswagen ran an ad campaign that asked “Why buy something like a Golf, when you could buy a Golf”, and to a certain extent you could see their point. Like it or not since its inception Volkswagen’s Golf has become the hatchback benchmark; the one by which all others are judged. It may not be the cheapest, the fastest or even some might argue the best looking but as an...

Excitingly practical is how Honda describes the latest edition to their ever popular Civic line-up: The Civic Sport. And to a certain extent at least it’s not stretching one’s imagination too far to see why.
If ever there was a car that exploded the myth that all new hatchbacks had to look the same then surely the last generation Honda Civic was that hatchback. The triangular fog-lamps,...

It’s taken me a week and around 600miles to really make myself comfortable with the Audi 8.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to say that Audi’s flagship executive saloon is in anyway uncomfortable, far, far from it in fact, it’s just that when there are so many ways in which you can tailor it to your individual needs it takes a while before you really feel like you know it.
At first there’...

If your opinion of Volvo estate cars is that they’re all boxy and a bit boring then Volvo’s V60 might just come as something as a surprise to you. Gone are the set-square designed lines of old, replaced instead by an attractive low slung nose, muscular front, and rear arches and a roof line that, if you stretched your imagination just a little bit, might just count as coupe-like. The V60...

Think about it. How many superminis currently in production can you name? Corsa, Polo, Ibiza, Yaris, I20, Clio, Jazz, A1, Ibiza, MiTo, 500, DS3… There’s a dozen straight away. It’s not such hard question really is it?
OK, now try this one: How many supermini estates currently in production can you name?
Suddenly the list gets a lot, lot shorter doesn’t it? Full marks if you mentioned the...
