Mayfair Community Centre in Church Stretton is celebrating a rather special week, this week, as its national Volunteers Week.
National Volunteers week celebrates all the hours given, for free, by the masses of volunteers that help out so many varied organisations on a regular or irregular basis throughout the UK.
With over 320 active volunteers, Mayfair Community Centre has volunteers working in every area of the centre, from receptionists to IT support, washing up, day care, crèche, making sandwiches and serving puddings , Ring and Ride drivers as well as daily ‘listeners’, who offer their time for free to help those who need to talk as well as volunteers that run the very popular 'Walking for Health' walks each week. Another two areas of Mayfair, CoCo (Compassionate Communities) and Maysi (Mayfair Supporting Independence) – two programs that support independence in a person’s own home, helping them to stay independent for as long as possible, the program also offers help with shopping, or just to sit and chat for a little while.
Sophie Eades, Centre Coordinator said “each minute given, each hour, is so valued to us, without the amazing team of volunteers we couldn’t operate and offer as many services that we do”.
Sophie continued “we have such a dedicated team, many volunteers have been with us for over 15 years and are still very active!”
Angela Ellis, Volunteer Coordinator said “It is wonderful to feel and see the passion in everyone who volunteers at Mayfair, their dedication and commitment is valued by each and every one of us here, from the staff to the trustees and centre users too”.
Mayfair will be celebrating this special week with a display in Church Strettons Market Square on Thursday of this week. Staff and volunteers will be ‘glammed up’, and promoting the current volunteer opportunities at Mayfair from 9am – 1pm.
