Mayfair Community Centre in Church Stretton are holding their annual Festive Frost Fair on Saturday November 21st and have decided to also run a ‘bake off’ that day too, to celebrate the WI’s 100th birthday this year.
Participants are asked to bake a whole sponge cake, a whole sponge cake decorated or a traybake. There is also a specific category for the under 16’s, which is 4 x cupcakes. The bakers will be asked to bake their bakes the day before the Frost Fair, on Friday 20th November, and bring them in for judging.
Sophie Eades, Mayfair Centre Coordinator said “we are so excited about the Frost Fair this year, not only will we have the ‘Bake Off’, but we’ll also have Father Christmas flying in for a one-day appearance in between his usual festive planning, as well as lots of local businesses selling their wares, demonstrations by The Ironmen and Severn Gilders Morris Dancers from Ironbridge and Mayfair’s own Belly Dancing troup, led by tutor Angela Ellis”.
Supported by the Church Stretton ‘Marmaladies’ WI group, the Bake Off will be judged on the morning of the Frost Fair by a professional WI judge as well as Ed Van Doesburg, from local deli ‘Van Doesburg’s”. The Bake Off is also supported by Salts Kitchen Supply Shop, in Church Stretton.
Sophie continued “the Bake Off is open to anyone, and application forms are available from Mayfair’s reception or by emailing Mayfair at [email protected]. There is a minimal charge of £1.50 per item entered, to raise fund for Mayfair’s work”.
The event promises to be full of fun and festive cheer!
