Craft Courses at Mayfair

Mayfair is pleased to announce a wonderful selection of craft and IT courses running throughout the rest of the year. Including the return of Karen van Hoff, who will be teaching jewellery making and also Katy Alston who will be teaching a few 'book art' courses. Places are limited, so we would suggest booking early! We will also be running a beginners sewing machine course over 3 Saturdays which will be a fantastic and informative course for those who want to do more with their sewing machine.

Polymer Clay Bead making with Pat Philpott Make your own beads and create a unique necklace! Bring any beads you have in a similar colour to which you would like to make up. Plus any in gold or silver – your preference. Bring a small tray to bead on, or a dinner plate. Pat will bring all findings etc. Tuesday August 4th 10am – 4pm. 10 x per course - £35 pp includes lunch and refreshments

Ipad beginners Course - Monday 10th August 1-3pm. £10 pp A two hour session to assist you in getting to grips with your iPad. Please note this course is only for iPads and no other ‘notebook’.

Carousel Book Workshop with Katy Alston. Learn how to construct a 'Carousel' or 'Star Book' - a book that opens into a free-standing model with multilayered scenes on the subject of your choice. Thursday September 10th, 17th, 24th and October 1st. £60 pp, for 4 x weeks. 10 people Max

Jewellery Making with Karen Van Hoff Sculpt fine wires with pearls, crystals, and gemstone beads into stunning pieces of jewellery.All equipment and materials are provided. Tuesday September 15th 10am – 4pm. 10 x per course - £40 pp includes lunch and refreshments

Silver PMC Clay Jewellery Making with Jules Harper. Silver Clay is an exciting medium that allows the artist to create jewellery designs in pure fine silver. Jules will guide you through the day, allowing you to be creative without the pressure of costly mistakes than can be common with a new hobby. Jules’ class is an introduction to PMC Silver. Monday September 21st 10am -4pm. 4 x per course - £40 pp includes lunch and refreshments

Computer Maintenance Course - Monday 12th October 1-3pm. £10 pp

Knitting with a Difference with Pat Philpott Take a look at your knitting, its direction and some of the more technical aspects. Requirements: a ball of double knitting or similar and the appropriate needles. Large tapestry needle, scissors, 3 balls (or bits) of wool that go together, eg, blue/turqoiuse, green/brown.  Tuesday October  20th 10am – 4pm. 10 x per course - £35 pp includes lunch and refreshments

Discover the world of Book Arts with Katy Alston! Come and create a colourful 3D illustrated model using paper-cutting, illustration and 'nets'. Make a shepherd's hut, beehive or greenhouse! Thursday October 22nd, 4.30-6pm. £15 pp. 10 people Max

Designing Greetings Cards using IT - Monday 26th October 1-3pm. £10 pp

Beginners Sewing Machine Course with Pat Philpott Basic sewing machine techniques for beginners. At the end of the course you will understand more about your machne, do some sewing, pressing, seams, darts, zips and binding. Lots of hints and tips along the way to improve the finish and quality of what you make. You will need: your sewing machine and instruction book, needles, sewing thread, small pieces of different fabrics (8” square) and scissors. Saturday October 31st Saturday November  7th Saturday November 14th £100 pp for the 3 day course

Calling all dressmakers! How to make a pattern from a garment WITHOUT unpicking it with Pat Philpott.  An old/new favourite or something that does not fit anymore and then we can alter the pattern. You’ll need a garment, greaseproof paper, pins, pencil and paper scissors, as well as a large cork notice board or mat if you have one. Tuesday November 10th 10 x per course - £35 pp includes lunch and refreshments

Random Patchwork with Pat Philpott Make a bag or a cushion cover and see what other possibilities there are for this easy and creative technique. Bring small pieces of fabric you would like to use together, can be wool, silk or cotton, as well as thread to match, sewing machine, zip or buttons. Tuesday December 8th 10 x per course - £35 pp includes lunch and refreshments
