Halls auctioneers are lining up a Christmas cracker of a sale at Shrewsbury Auction Centre on December 2 with prizes on offer across all livestock sections.

The Bryan Challenor Cup will be at stake for the overall champion of the dairy show and sale in addition for the champion cow, heifer best exhibitor bred entry. Entries close on Friday, November 28.

The cup is named after the legendary dairy farmer and businessman from Abergavenny who died aged 70 in 2016 after a brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

For the fourth year, sponsors and agricultural businesses will have trade stands around the livestock market for the showpiece show and sale. They will be joined this year by stallholders selling a range of Christmas gifts.

“The Christmas Dairy Show and Sale for the Bryan Challenor Cup is always a highlight of the year at the market, with more sponsors, more cash prizes and a very high quality entry of cattle,” said Jonny Dymond, Halls’ senior auctioneer and Shrewsbury Auction Centre manager.

In the calves section, prizes will be awarded to the overall champion as well as the best continental and native bulls and heifers.

Prizes for the top prices dairy and continental breeds will be on offer in the barren cattle section.

The sheep section includes a range of prizes for pens of lambs at different weights as well as the best single lamb the cull sheep section has rewards for the top priced ewe or lamb and best pen of ewes.
