PT Ryan’s Fitness Tips for Success

Hello, and welcome to the first of my fitness tips, which will be coming to you on a regular basis, on Love

I will be regularly passing on a little nugget of information, which could help you to either feel or look better.  This month, I will be looking for the solutions to motivation through the rest of these autumnal months, and into the winter season.

You may have heard of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder.)  This is conditions that leaves a person feeling unwell, depressed, constantly tired, or even a mix of these.  It is believed to be due to the lack of the sun’s rays that provide us with constant supply of Vitamin D that is soaked up through the skin during summer.

So, how do we combat this?

A supplement of Calcium and Vitamin D is an easy way, but let’s look into more natural principles in our Diet and Exercise.  Well, we can all up our intake of Fish (Salmon, Tuna, Herring) which all give us 90% of our RDA (recommended daily amount) of Vitamin D; but surprisingly, it’s Mushrooms that work the best.  Not only do Button/Shiitake Mushrooms, contain enough Vitamin D for a day in one portion, they also contain Vitamin B6 and B12 which both supply the body with energy.  Try making these slight alterations before reaching for the coffee jar!

Given that most of us, these days, work long hours and more often than not, have to get up early enough as it is, it may be hard going to try to get our exercise in the morning rather than the evening.  However, studies have shown that getting as little as 20 minutes exercise, followed by a hot shower first thing in the morning can do wonders for our energy levels, give our metabolism a boot, and reduce our stress levels.

So try this just once, get yourself to bed a little earlier, put your trainers ready by the front door and get up for a morning walk or jog.  Just see if it doesn’t make you feel more energetic, and less stressed out for the day ahead.
