Village Water's Shrewsbury Raft Regatta

Village Water is delighted to announce its first ever Shrewsbury Raft Regatta. The Regatta will take place on Sunday 7 September at the Pengwern Boat Club, Shrewsbury. On the day teams will come along to the Pengwern and build their rafts in the morning, before taking part in afternoon heats to see who will be crowned the winner. There will also be prizes for second, third and last places, as well as best fancy dress.

Village Water will provide some blue plastic drums on a first come, first served basis (that will float), and will send all teams a list of the types of things they can use in their raft. So, teams will be able to design their raft beforehand. Teams will then have from 10am to 12.30pm on the day to build their rafts, before the Regatta starts at 1pm.

As well as the Regatta there will also be food and drink on sale, so why not invite all your friends and family along to support you.

Who are Village Water

Village Water is a charity based in Shrewsbury, supporting rural villages in Zambia to access safe water and sanitation. 800 million people don't have access to clean drinking water, that’s 1 in 9 of us and more people today have access to a mobile phone than a toilet. Once access to basic necessities such as safe water and sanitation is provided, people are freed from the constraints of disease, and have more time, better health, and better opportunity to contribute to the growth of themselves and their communities.

Clare, director – “It’s all part of our Well Good Appeal where all the money raised will be doubled by the UK government so we’re really excited to be putting on such a fun day for all the family. We’re fundraising on water FOR water so would love to get as many teams as possible.”

How to enter

The Raft Regatta is open to teams of between 4 and 6 people, but each member has to be over 18 and able to swim. Each team needs a Captain and importantly, a good team or raft name.

To enter simply download the Entry form and return it to Village Water along with a cheque for £150 (and also a £15 refundable litter deposit). You'll also need to download and read the Terms and Conditions before sending in your form.
