Thinking pink for mother's day

A Shrewsbury salon has come up with a colourful way to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Stylists at Toni & Guy in Castle Street are marking the event by raising money for charity – by offering to put a pink streak in clients’ hair.

“We want to use Mother’s Day to collect as much money as possible for Breakthrough Breast Cancer as this is a campaign closely linked to women and our team here also like to support this cause on a regular basis,” said salon manager Lauren Foskett.

“In the time leading up to March 30 we will be giving a 15% donation to the charity from all sales of hair treatments and gift cards and to do something different we will have our pink hair sprays on hand!

“Vivid highlights are very fashionable at the moment and pink is the colour associated with the breast cancer charity so our team came up with the idea of offering a pink streak to any customer willing to make a donation.

“It is a temporary colour which can be washed out but is a great way of showing friends and family that you are doing your bit to support this very worthwhile charity,” she explained.

Lauren is also a specialist stylist who works with cancer patients who have lost their hair through chemotherapy, becoming the first hairdresser in the region to specialise in working with the Macmillan charity through its ‘Strength in Style’ programme.

She spent time on a training course in London, meeting with Macmillan nurses and people who had lost their hair due to treatment and learning about what they go through and how she could help.

The team of staff at Toni & Guy in Shrewsbury organise regular fund-raising events throughout the year for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Macmillan.
