Thinking of Buying the New iPhone? Here’s What You Need to Know

The latest smartphones from Apple, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, have finally been uncovered after months of speculation, rumours, and various leaked photographs. As with the iPhone 6 and 6s models, Apple have once again released both a smaller and larger version of the device. Pre-orders opened last weekend both from Apple and a range of UK mobile phone networks, and already, the phones are flying off the shelves even though they are not officially on sale until 16th September 2016. With queues already starting forming outside Apple stores days ahead of the big release, we’ve got the lowdown on everything that you need to know if you’ve pre-ordered or are planning to purchase an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.

There Might Be a Wait

If you’ve only just pre-ordered your new iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, or are planning on ordering it soon, you might have to wait a little longer than the release date to get it in your hands. The pre-orders for the iPhone 7 are higher than ever before, with some of the earliest buyers getting in there straight away in order to get their new handset bright and early on release day.

It Won’t Be SIM Free

Unless you’ve bought your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus directly from Apple or are planning to queue at your local Apple store this Friday, you’ll need to be aware that the handset you purchase will be locked to the network that you’re purchasing it from. Because of this, if you’re planning to purchase the new iPhone, it’s good to think carefully about the network that you choose as you won’t be able to swap to another unless you get the handset unlocked. Your Headphones Aren’t Useless

Music lovers all over the world are cursing the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, which now comes without the standard and much-loved 3.5mm headphone jack. The removal of this feature was in order to make the handset slimmer than ever before, and has been met with a range of mixed opinions. However, if the fact that you won’t be able to plug your expensive headphones into your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus is putting you off, you’ll be glad to hear that you get an adapter that allows you to use them as usual along with your handset at no extra cost, along with a pair of lightning connector headphones. AirPods are sold separately.

Choosing a Colour

One of the exciting things about the new handset release from Apple is a brand new colour option. After rolling out the hugely successful but also very girly Rose Gold with the iPhone 6S, Apple have gone with a more gender-neutral colour choice in the form of Jet Black. The Jet Black iPhone 7 looks very elegant, but if you’re considering this colour, ensure you have a protective case as the shiny surface means its more susceptible to scratches and scuffs.
