Sod Cutting Ceremony, Soulton Road, Wem

A sod cutting ceremony recently took place at Soulton Road, Wem to celebrate construction work commencing to build 23 new affordable homes.  The 16 month build programme, with a contract value of nearly £2.5m, will provide 20 houses and 3 bungalows for affordable rent and shared ownership for the local community.

Part of the funding for the new homes has been provided from Shropshire Council through community-led housing grant and also the Homes and Communities Agency.

Helen Pugh, Business Development Manager at Severnside commented “We have worked closely with Wem Rural Parish Council, Shropshire Council and Shropshire Homes to provide these much needed high quality homes for the local people of Wem rural.”

Peter Broomhall, Chair of Wem Rural Parish Council commented “The Parish Council is pleased that the development is progressing as it means that much needed social housing will be available to parishioners and help those who wish to live, work and bring up families in the area.”

Mal Price, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing and Commissioning (Central) at Shropshire Council said “I'm very pleased to see the partnership working between Wem Rural Parish Council, Severnside Housing and Shropshire Homes in the delivery of this very much needed high quality affordable housing scheme.”

Howard Thorne, Managing Director from Shropshire Homes added “We are really pleased to be working with Severnside Housing again on the provision of much needed affordable homes in Wem.  We share the same dedication to ensuring that our developments are carried out to the highest standards – in design, construction and service to customers after completion.”
