Shropshire company delighted at re-accreditation

Bosses at a Shropshire company are celebrating after securing official approval from the British Standards Institute.

Physiological Measurements Ltd (PML), based in Willow Street, Oswestry, delivers award winning services on behalf of the NHS and private clients across the UK and have recently passed a rigorous inspection process for quality management by the British Standard Institute (BSI) and will be awarded with the BSI ISO 9001:2008 certification.

Jon Pither, director at PML, said: “The certificate proves that we can ensure that the needs and expectations of our customers are met.

“It is something we have to work towards constantly and it forms the fabric of everything that we do in terms of business processes across our whole business, we are very pleased to have achieved it again.”

PML offers medical tests to patients referred by GPs in their clinic as an alternative to going to hospital and experiencing lengthy waiting lists.

The company carry out the procedures in existing GP surgeries, health centres and Community Hospitals across the UK, as well as the specially built lab at its Oswestry base.

PML has won five National awards for the quality and success of its services and office manager Sian Taylor said the BSI certificate is an important part of the service they offer.

She said: “When we are going out to tender this provides assurance that we are subscribing to and achieving a standard of service which is given and maintained by international standards.

“It is important for us to be able to say that this is a standard we achieve year in year out.

“It means you are continually evaluating what you are doing, how you are doing it and is that the best way to do it.
“Hopefully with this it means we can go out and win more contracts and expand the business, without this certificate there is no way we would be able to do so.”

The BSI scrutinise company internal audits, look at customer satisfaction levels, look at new product or service introduction and maintenance.

Mr Pither added: “All our staff have played a vital role in this achievement.

“People using our services can be assured that we have been extensively assessed in respect of quality and standards.

“We respond quickly to change and are swift to adopt new methods and best practices to provide the best service to our clients.

“We are delighted that the BSI has recognised our excellence in the field and are confident that it will bring us even more business.”
The team at PML are also currently working towards an environmental standards certificate, for which an audit will be carried out in the coming months.
In addition, the company has just signed up to achieve a new certificate. Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) is part of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and is backed by the Royal College of Physicians. PML hope to achieve this later in the year.
