Shrewsbury ukulele band The Severn Ukes announce forthcoming gigs

Shropshire eight-piece ukulele band The Severn Ukes will be offering their brand of fun and interpretations of well-known songs to audiences at a series of gigs between now and Christmas.

Formed in 2013 the Shrewsbury based outfit played a number of shows throughout the summer, most notably at Shrewsbury Food Festival in June and a sold-out performance on the Sabrina Boat in August.

The forthcoming gigs are all free to attend unless otherwise stated:
Thursday 09 October, Redwoods Centre, Shelton, Shrewsbury – 7.30pm, donations to Arts For Health.
Saturday 11 October, The Red Barn pub, Longden Road, Shrewsbury – 8.30pm.
Saturday 08 November, Shawbury firework display – 6.00pm, £3.00 adults, U16s free.
Sunday 14 December, The Hive, Shrewsbury, with The Lunettes and Chris Quinn - £10.00, Fundraiser for Shrewsbury Ark.
Saturday 20 December, The Grove pub, Belle Vue Road, Shrewsbury – 8.30pm

Commenting on these and the band’s following spokesperson Dave Cowton, said: “We generally have a great deal of fun at our concerts, which includes a lot of  banter between the band and with the audience as well as the occasional juggling of coconuts! We have a good following now and work closely with promoters to help publicise an event from delivering fliers to houses in the area surrounding the venue to maximising the use of social media, such as Twitter and Facebook.

“Our music ranges from the 1920s to the present day, including artists and bands such as Hoagy Carmichael, Elvis Presley, Scaffold, The Real Thing, The Undertones, The Foo Fighters and The Kings Of Leon. We often surprise the audience with songs they wouldn’t expect a ukulele band to play, which means we have to keep on our toes with new ideas as well,” he added.
