Shrewsbury Nursery Children Get Baking For Charity Coffee Morning

Cakes and buns made by children and staff at a Shrewsbury nursery will take centre stage at a charity coffee morning this weekend.

Sunflower House Nursery will be open from 10am until 1pm on Saturday 18th October 2014, when there will also be a host of other fun activities for all the family, including face painting and a guess the teddy's name competition.

The nursery, based in Sunflower House Children's Centre in Kendal Road, is holding the event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and all are welcome to attend.

Faye Hocknell, deputy manager at the nursery, has organised the day alongside baby room leader and colleague Bobbie Carter.

She said all the children would be busy baking in preparation by the end of the week.

"Our coffee morning is a bit later than most of them but we wanted to hold it on a weekend so that anyone could attend without any disruption to our children's usual days," she said.

"We have a fun-filled morning planned, with face painting, lots of games and a raffle taking place alongside the coffee, tea and cake.

"Friday will be spent baking with our children ready for the big event, while a lot of our staff and even our parents have volunteered to bring cakes in for it too.

"Not only is it a way to raise money for a great cause, baking is also a fantastic way to get our children interested in preparing food, learning more about it and where it comes from at a young age, while also having lots of fun.

"We're hoping to get plenty of people stopping by to help us raise lots of money for such a great cause."

Sunflower House Nursery provides full day care all year round for children aged from three months until they go to school.

It is part of the Hazles Farm Childcare group and one of three other nurseries in Shrewsbury, with a fourth just outside Shawbury in North Shropshire.
