Shrewsbury Morris Dancers Keep Shaking

At their major Day of Dance later this month, Shrewsbury Morris Dancing Troop will be performing with extra gusto, thanks to a generous donation from local heating distributor, Bates and Hunt.

The £250 donation from the Dorrington based heating oil supplier, will contribute to the troop’s on going running costs for the premier event in the Morris dancing calendar, which takes place on 28th September.

The donation was made after Graydon Radford, group leader for Shrewsbury Morris Dancing Troop, contacted Amanda War, depot manager at Bates and Hunt, to appeal for support.

Graydon commented: “Organising activities in our troop is something I thoroughly enjoy and I’m dedicated to making our events as spectacular as they can be. However, the costs associated with coordinating festivals such as the annual Day of Dance have increased quite significantly and so we held out our caps to local businesses to lend a helping hand.

“The donation from Bates and Hunt will make our event all the more special. We hope to attract more than 200 spectators and the event will transform Shrewsbury with music, colour and dancing – everyone is welcome to come along and watch and hopefully we’ll also pick up some new recruits in the process.”

Andrea Pitts, Bates and Hunt regional manager, commented: “We try and support different projects in our community and when approached by Graydon about the Day of Dance, we were keen to help.

“Morris dancing continues to be one of the rich traditions in British culture and will also bring a lot of interest and vibrancy to the Shrewsbury area when the event takes place later this month.”

Shrewsbury Morris Dancers have almost 40 years of dancing experience, providing an exciting mix of traditional border Morris and innovative dance styles with strong musical support. The troop has practice nights on Thursday at Sundorne School and Sports College, Shrewsbury.
