Shrewsbury Company is Finalist in the Giving App of the Year

Shrewsbury web development company, NinetyOne Consulting, is a finalist in the Giving App of the Year category at the 2014 JustGiving Awards for their work on a global sailing race and fundraising event website.

Bart’s Bash, which takes place on the 21st September 2014, will join together thousands of sailors worldwide at their local club in a race to set a new Guinness World Record, raise money for charity and remember Andrew “Bart” Simpson.

A Gold and Silver Olympic medallist and America’s Cup sailor, Andrew tragically died in a training accident in San Francisco bay while preparing for the America’s Cup competition.

David Bishop of NinetyOne Consulting worked closely with the team at Bart’s Bash and The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation to ensure charity fundraising was at the heart of the website. The nomination recognises the fundraising engagement and innovative rewards strategy that links JustGiving through the website to fundraising league tables, social media prizes, personal videos from Olympic stars and commemorative medals as fundraising targets are reached.

Three Shropshire clubs, The Shropshire Sailing Club, Colemere Sailing Club and Chelmarsh Sailing Club, have already signed up as race venues alongside over 600 other clubs worldwide, hosting an anticipated 30,000 participants in well over 2,000 different classes of boat.

The first competitors to sign up and start fundraising were four time Olympic Champion, America’s Cup winner and team principal of Ben Ainslie Racing, Sir Ben Ainslie; double Olympic champion and Artemis Racing team manager, Iain Percy OBE; and two time America’s Cup winner and skipper of Oracle Team USA, Jimmy Spithill. Bart’s Bash offers an opportunity for participants to race against these sailing greats, and a host of other Olympians worldwide, in a unique event.

David Bishop said “we are absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award as a recognition of the work we have done. Bart’s Bash is going to be a phenomenal event – the engagement we have seen from the sailing community on the website is on track to make thousands of participants Guinness World Record holders and kick start the foundation on it’s journey to inspire the next generation of sailors. ”

Sir Ben Ainslie, who is also a trustee of The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, said “Andrew was a true inspiration. We hope that a touch of that magic is reflected in Bart’s Bash.”
