Respected coaching company teams up with SSCFA

A leading county sports coaching company has teamed up with Shropshire Schools and Colleges FA to give talented local youngsters the best possible chance of realising their football potential.

Shropshire has long been a successful breeding ground for aspiring footballers with over 20 players from the county currently playing professional football.

Now Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport Director Gavin Cowan, who has just been appointed Director of Coaching for the Shropshire Schools & Colleges FA, has outlined an exciting project for the future which offers county youngsters a wonderful opportunity to progress their football skills.

Gavin stressed that Crossbar’s message to young players is “to strive to be the best you can."

The former Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford United defender added: “We are very excited to be working alongside the Shropshire Schools & Colleges FA and helping young footballers continue to develop."

Mark Hignett, FDO and vice chairman of the SSCFA, stressed he was pleased to be working in partnership with Crossbar given the impressive reputation the company has developed, not only in football coaching but also in delivering PE across the curriculum to a number of schools throughout Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

He said: "Working with school children across Shropshire, the raising of aspirations to be the best each individual can be is a key element of our partnership.
"Even more importantly, we share the desire for children to participate and progress with a smile on their face, a quality Crossbar bring about in abundance.”

He also praised the continuing support from Greenhous, a long standing supporter of schools sports throughout Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, who have donated a van.

"The provision of a vehicle enables the programme to be extended into the schools of north and south Shropshire which is great news for all the children,” he added.

Crossbar run well established Academies in Shrewsbury and Telford which have both recently moved to new venues and they are always keen to welcome new players.

The Shrewsbury Academy is held each Thursday evening between 5- 6pm at the Wilfred Owen School in Monkmoor on a 3G astro-turf pitch while the Telford Academy now takes place every Friday from 5.15-6.15pm on the 3G astro-turf at Telford College of Arts and Technology.

There is a £25 joining fee for both Academies which includes a kit for youngsters to wear when they attend the sessions which then cost £4 per week to be paid in blocks each term.

At the end of each term there will FREE showcase days for parents, teachers and SSCFA staff to observe the development of the children.
