New Shrewsbury Xmas Event

It may still be six weeks to Christmas, but interest in a new event planned for Shrewsbury this December is gathering pace quicker than a reindeer on Christmas Eve!

Shrewsbury Christmas, which takes place in the quarry on 12 and 13 December has already attracted more than 19,000 people on its facebook events page and sold over 2000 tickets.  The event promises to be the perfect start to the festive season with a great mix of food and drink, crafts and seasonal cheer.

Beth Heath, Shropshire Food Ambassador and organiser said: “We are really excited about staging the first Shrewsbury Christmas, although watching the number of likes on facebook increase literally minute by minute has been a little surreal.”

The event which has a capacity of 8,000 each day will bring together more than 150 exhibitors selling their festive wares, while local choirs will be getting us all in the mood with the best Christmas carols and a big singalong each day at 3pm. Mrs Claus will be there entertaining the under 6’s with festive storytime and of course she will have Santa’s postbox there so she can take home those all important wish lists to the man himself!

Winter fun is assured on the ice rink, while festive workshops for adults and kids alike will enable you to make your own decorations, learn how to wrap like a professional and even make your own Christmas wreaths.

Organisers haven’t forgotten about the true meaning of Christmas either teaming up with The Ark in Shrewsbury to raise money for those in need across the town. Donations from the ice rink and also a scheme in conjunction with Monks Estates Agents in town will raise awareness of those less fortunate  through the winter months. Shrewsbury College will also be running a soup kitchen at the event, with the money from every bowl of delicious soup sold going straight back into Festival Charity, The Shrewsbury Ark.

Another major initiative will be the ‘pay it forward’ scheme being launched across the town. This will enable all of us while Christmas Shopping to help someone less fortunate. Beth added: “Pay it forward has really captured the imagination of people in Shrewsbury and these seemingly small acts of kindness happen on a daily basis in the town. They mean an awful lot to each recipient and Shrewsbury Christmas is the perfect way to expand and promote ‘pay it forward’ at this time of giving.”
