Local theatre company to present 'the anti panto' at theatre severn

A local theatre company is offering Salopians an alternative to the Pantomime this winter.

Vested Interest, who are based at Shrewsbury College, will provide an insight to how characters celebrate and survive Christmas when ‘The Perfect Season’ slides down the chimney at Theatre Severn this winter.

Vested Interest Director, Vicki Duckett said the aim of this show is to offer audiences something festively funny yet familiar, “You’ll doubtlessly recognise the characters. There is the serial card sender, the wife who dreams of the perfect Christmas Day, the man who aims to complete his entire Christmas shopping in under 12 minutes, plus many more.

“It has been hailed as ‘The Anti-Panto’ which perfectly sums up the content and style of the show. ’The Perfect Season’ is a light-hearted portrayal of how people of every age and background negotiate their traditions at this ‘most wonderful time of the year’’

Vested Interest have built up a strong local following in the past two years, having won awards at The All England Theatre Festival, creating a farcical play performed in between food courses in a restaurant as well as becoming a theatre company in residence at Shrewsbury College on London Road.

Assistant Producer Poppy Mansfield explains why this is an exciting time for the company, “This will be the first time we perform at Theatre Severn. It’s quite special knowing that the show has been inspired by local people and they may be in the audience watching it. We hope that this will be the first of many”

The Perfect Season will be performed in The Walker Theatre at Theatre Severn on Saturday 22nd November just a few days after the Christmas light switch on in the Square, Shrewsbury.

This one off performance will begin at 7.30pm. To book tickets contact Theatre Severn 01743 281281 or book online at www.theatresevern.co.uk. Tickets are £12. Audience members are encouraged to wear their Christmas jumpers as the best one could win a prize! Please note this performance will contain some mild adult content.
