Fighting for Sight at the House of Commons

Shrewsbury and Atcham MP, Daniel Kawczynski, invited Fight for Sight’s Chief Executive, Michele Acton to discuss the future of eye research and present a cheque for funds raised for vital eye research.

Daniel, became a patron for Fight for Sight, the main UK charity dedicated to funding pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease in 2012. He is a strong supporter of Fight for Sight’s mission to create a future that everyone can see.

At constituent Audrey Piggot’s 80th birthday party recently guests were encouraged to donate funds to the charity, instead of buying a birthday gift. Audrey, who is Vice President of Shrewsbury and Atcham Conservative Association, has previously raised funds for the charity by holding a coffee morning in 2012, which raised nearly £1,000.

The funds raised for Mrs Piggot’s birthday were presented to Michele Acton, by Daniel Kawczynski, at the House of Commons, where Michele was pleased to provide an update on the vital research work that is currently being carried out across the country. Fight for Sight funds £8m worth of eye research across 35 universities and hospitals.

MP Daniel Kawczynski said: “Audrey is a pillar of the community. What a generous act of kindness to celebrate her milestone birthday by donating funds to Fight for Sight. People like Audrey really help make a difference and support the vital eye research work that Fight for Sight does.”

Michele Acton, CEO of Fight for Sight, added: “Thank you to Audrey for supporting Fight for Sight. Working with Daniel gives Fight for Sight a platform to raise awareness of the work that we do to the Shrewsbury community. We are grateful that they both support our mission.”
