Diners take a step back in time with a Victorian Christmas at a Shropshire hotel.

Visitors to a Shropshire hotel will take a step back in time when they celebrate a Victorian Christmas at the popular venue.

And people going along to the Best Western Valley Hotel in Ironbridge will be able to enjoy a whole host of food and entertainment influenced by the days of Queen Victoria’s empire.

Staff at the hotel have spent months creating this year’s Christmas programme of events for December as organisers said it was vital every year offered something different for their customers.

Lisa Snape, sales manager at the family-run hotel, said: “We have put a lot of work into organising the perfect Christmas celebrations this year.

“The festive season is a very special time and we really wanted to make visits to the Best Western Valley Hotel something to remember.”

She said: “Our traditional Christmas lunches are ideal for an office party, family gathering or annual get-together.

“We have some delicious dishes created, including roast turkey, fillet of salmon and roast butternut squash risotto as well as Christmas pudding for dessert.

“At our Victorian Christmas luncheons people can immerse themselves in a traditional treat from the turn of the 19th Century with professional performers from local theatre company, Sundial, included.

“The Santa Sunday lunch is ideal for families and the package includes music while you eat from our pianist and a present from Father Christmas. It is the first time we have held this and I am sure it will be popular.”

This year for the first time there will be a Christmas afternoon tea with a range of food, including soup, scones, carrot cake and mince pies.

For those who fancy a boogie then the hotel has lined up themed party nights, a Michael Jackson tribute night and a soul, motown, disco and funk show.

Mrs Snape said: “We have thought about those people who have had enough of traditional turkey and party celebrations but may want to celebrate with their loved one.

“Our gourmet candlelit dinner is ideal for those who want to enjoy excellent food in beautiful surroundings.

“I am sure they are going to be popular. The package includes mulled wine and canapes served on arrival, a three-course meal, coffee and petit fours.

“To add to the atmosphere we will have a solo guitarist playing a selection of classical and modern music while diners eat.”

Mrs Snape added: “Now is the time to book your Christmas celebration meal to avoid being disappointed.”
