Designer shines a light on Shrewsbury’s streets

Quirky Christmas cards showcasing Shrewsbury’s diverse range of architecture are proving popular this year.

Linda Edwards, an illustrator based in Quarry Place, has launched a range of products called ‘Sunny Side Art’ which celebrate the town she loves.

“Shrewsbury is an amazing place with some really interesting and attractive streets and buildings so I thought I would produce a selection of cards, prints and gifts that showcase the character of the town,” said Linda, who developed the project with her partner Nigel Elliott.

“The illustrations weave together words, pictures and songs to tell a story of my favourite town and its surrounding Shropshire countryside. We pay lots of attention to detail and like to design things that have warmth and soul,” she explained.

One of the main outlets for her Christmas range is Write Here in Shrewsbury’s High Street, which is one of the county’s largest independent card shops.

Proprietor John Hall said that the cards were amongst his best-sellers this year and he had ordered extra batches to be delivered to meet demand.

He said: “We are delighted with the response to Linda’s range of ‘Sunny Side’ cards, which are proving really popular with local people and visitors to the town.

“Many are being posted to friends and family all over the world so they are a great way to promote our county.

“The detailed illustrations make people proud of Shrewsbury and also draw attention to the wonderful architecture here – we are lucky to live and work in such an interesting town.

“Shrewsbury has some really creative people in all fields and we always like to work with local residents to do our bit to support county entrepreneurs,” he added.

Linda said that her Sunny Side range also included limited edition prints, tea towels and mugs and she was now extending the project to include other popular towns around England.
