City breaks for families in London

When it comes to a city break in the UK, there are few places that can compare with London. The city is one of the most vibrant in Europe – and, indeed, in the entire world – and is packed with things to see and do for people of all ages. No matter how much time or money the family has available, there will be something to keep everybody entertained while on a city break in London.

Exploring London

Thanks to the convenience of the underground and a great system of buses, it is very easy to get around the city of London; by using Travelcards, the family can utilize public transport all day for a relatively small amount of money. This means that it will not be necessary to keep to the city centre, and that other fascinating areas of the city are within easy reach.

One area outside of the city centre that is well worth exploring is Greenwich. This part of London is home to the National Maritime Museum, as well as a large and beautiful park. Nobody should visit Greenwich without stopping at the Royal Observatory – home of the Prime Meridian and Greenwich Mean Time, as well as London’s only planetarium. Greenwich is also home to a wonderful craft market where visitors can pick up unusual souvenirs and gifts. This is a very trendy area of the city, but will usually not feature on the main city tours.

The same applies to places such as Portobello and Wimbledon. These are just far enough away from the city centre’s main attractions to be left out of tours, but are definitely worth a visit.

A London day out

London is such a bustling city that it is very easy to forget that there are some beautiful green spaces here where the family can relax with a picnic and just enjoy the good weather. The truth of the matter, however, is that London is home to some of the most beautiful parks in the world. Top of the list has to be Hyde Park: when the weather is good, the family can take a boat onto the Serpentine – the 40-acre recreational lake located inside the park. Alternatively, visitors may want to explore Regent’s Park, which has a zoo and an open-air theatre.

Families with younger kids might want a little more in the way of entertainment, and so something like the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London may be preferable. The family will get to experience Harry Potter away from the books and movies, and see some of the great movie sets at close quarters. This is a tour that will easily take a whole day, and is an experience that will never be forgotten.

Many people have busy lives these days and finding quality time for the family can be difficult; when an opportunity to spend time together presents itself, it should not be passed up. Making memories that will last a lifetime is one of the main reasons why families should consider taking a city break in London.
