Cartoon Festival Invitation to Get Drawn In

Organisers of Shrewsbury’s annual Cartoon Festival are inviting anyone who is interested in getting involved in planning the 2015 event to come along to an informal open meeting on Wednesday 24th September.  The meeting is at 7pm in the Spirit lounge part of The Peach Tree restaurant on Abbey Foregate. The evening is a chance for people to hear about how the Festival works, meet organisers and some of the cartoonists, share some ideas for the future and find out how they can be involved in this unique event.

The Festival is looking for volunteers to help develop the Festival into new areas such as more participative activity as well as established features like the exhibitions of cartoon art, the cartoon Smile trail and cartoon workshops.  There are administrative tasks such as coordinating the workshops, exhibitions and hospitality for the visiting artists, publicity roles and practical tasks like framing artwork, helping to set up and stewarding on the main days of the Festival.

Bill McCabe from the Shrewsbury Cartoon Festival Group said “Volunteering with the Cartoon Festival is an opportunity to meet and work with professional cartoon artists – a creative, funny and friendly bunch who are generous in sharing their skills - and to be part of taking a unique Shrewsbury event into the future.”

The Shrewsbury Cartoon Festival 2015 will be centred around live events on Saturday 18th April with workshops, talks, advice sessions and cartooning and caricaturing in The Square.  The theme for next year’s Festival is Style.
