Build It International’s first clinic opens

Last week, the brand new rural facility at Nchute, Zambia held its first clinic. Hundreds of people received malaria testing on and treatment if they needed it.  Malaria is a big problem in rural Zambia.

Over the coming months the clinic will expand its services to include

  • Under fives clinics and nutrition education
  • antenatal care and advice
  • disease prevention, especially malaria and HIV / AIDS
  • hygiene education, especially to prevent diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea / dysentery

It will serve a population of around 2,500 people who previously walked up to 8 hours to receive treatment.

As well as the out-patients unit, Shrewsbury based charity, Build It International,  also built a staff house, latrines and maternity ward as well as a new borehole for clean water.

The maternity unit will be opened shortly and help to address the very high rates of maternal mortality in Zambia.

“The most beautiful building in the district”

That’s how Dr. Msiska, the District Medical Officer, described Nchute Health Clinic. He is right!
