Bike training to continue at Shropshire schools

Bikeability cycle training will continue to be offered to all primary and secondary schools in Shropshire, says Shropshire Council.

Cycle Experience has been appointed to deliver Bikeability cycle training on behalf of Shropshire Council until March 2016.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We are delighted to have Cycle Experience on board to provide Bikeability training in Shropshire.

By working with the private sector we are now able to offer schools a standard course for free. With no charge, coupled with Cycle Experience’s expertise, we look forward to seeing an increased number of schools taking part providing children with the skills and confidence to cycle safely on road, to school and on into adulthood.”

Part of the Shropshire based TTC Group, a UK leader in road safety education, Cycle Experience operates across the UK and have extensive experience delivering Bikeability training on behalf of local authorities.

Cycle Experience MD Nick Moon said: “We are delighted to have secured the cycle training contract to deliver Bikeability to schoolchildren across all Shropshire schools as well as provide training to any adults who want to learn to ride a bike or improve their cycling skills.”

The TTC Group,  with its HQ in Hadley Park, Telford, educates more than 250,000 drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians with the aim of reducing road casualties. The TTC Group has been praised for being passionate about road safety and is one of the 2% of UK companies to be awarded the gold level from Investors in People.

TTC Group chairman Graham Wynn, said: “It is fantastic to have Cycle Experience delivering cycle training in the region. We want both adults and children to be able to cycle safely on our roads and giving them the requisite cycle skills is of critical importance in achieving this objective.

Courses will be delivered by local instructors, many of whom have previous experience of delivering cycle training in Shropshire and understand the varying requirement of local schools.
